Lauren Carroll is an award-winning photojournalist at the Winston-Salem Journal and a graduate of the University of Georgia’s journalism and German programs. An Atlanta native, she has photographed Winston-Salem from all angles, shooting local farmers, wreckage from fires and storms, pee-wee football players, foxhunting and NCAA basketball tournaments. She covered President Obama’s inauguration in 2009, and has shot from a hot air balloon and from a B-17 bomber.

Lauren was named the 2012 Hugh Morton Photographer of the Year by the North Carolina Press Association. In 2011 and 2012, the Southern Newspaper Publishers Association awarded Lauren first-place honors for photographs in its annual contest. She has also been recognized multiple times with first, second and third-place honors by The North Carolina Press Association as well as the North Carolina Press Photographers Association. Additionally, Lauren works as an associate photographer at Asheville-based Whitmeyer Photography, an award-winning wedding photography company.
