Richard Petty

I had the chance recently to hang out with The King himself, Richard Petty. He was in town to deliver a ceremonial Meals on Wheels meal to Mary Lee Slawter to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Senior Services program. He had some help from long-time volunteer Hellen Prichard, who also got a pretty sweet Richard Petty-style hat to wear around.

I had heard that this NASCAR legend was really great to fans and supporters. And sure enough, he was one of the most friendly and patient famous people I’ve ever come across. He stayed until everyone had gotten a photo with him or snagged an autograph. I’ve never followed NASCAR, but I’m now an official fan of The King.
